‘Gulf times’ Qatar's top-selling English daily newspaper has written how the Qatari Ministry of Municipality marked the World Food Day celebrated by its Food Security Department.
The event gathered the Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie, state committees and institutions representatives to highlight issues of agricultural production and food safety. The World Food Day marked with the slogan "leave no one behind...better production, better nutrition, better environment, and a better life" was preceded with the recorded address by Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), Dr Qu Dongyu. Head of the FAO emphasized issues of food waste around the world calling for joint actions to reduce it. Furthermore, the event saw an introductory movie about 2022 World Food Day under the initiative "Your Health First", presentations aimed at knowledge and experience sharing in the agricultural production, food safety, reducing food waste and food preservation.
Among distinguished participants were representatives of the Food Safety Department at the Ministry of Public Health, the College of Health Sciences at Qatar University, the Preservation of Neema Center, the "Your Health First" initiative -- Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, and Mahaseel for Marketing and Agricultural Services Company.
The Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality Yousuf Khalid al-Khulaifi underlined Qatar’s constant effort in enhancing food security system locally, regionally, and internationally, highlighting Qatar’s election as the chair of the Executive Council of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security for three years term.
The Ministry of Municipality continuously supports the national Agri sector through implementing initiatives to provide chemical, organic fertilisers and pesticides, to agripreneurs to pursue stable prices and decrease food waste. Additionally, the ministry supplied varied concentrated feed, veterinary vaccinations and medicines to improve the animal health.
