The Chairman of the National Agrarian Science and Education Center (NASEC) Mr. Darkhan Balapanov paid a visit to the Headquarters of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) to meet H.E. Prof. Yerlan A. Baidaulet, the Director General of the IOFS to discuss the further cooperation between the Institutions.
The Chairman of NASEC thanked IOFS for providing the opportunity for the plant genetic resources professionals of Kazakhstan to participate in the recent training on “Gene Bank Management” held in Ankara from 26-30 September 2022, within the programme on “Development of National Gene Banks in OIC Member States”. Participants were introduced to the gene bank operations and best practices of Turkiye in implementing a national strategy on conservation of genetic resources, as well as fruitful deliberations with other scientists from African and Asian OIC Member States.
Furthermore, Mr. Darkhan Balapanov emphasized the importance of exploring international experience and practices for the improvement of the national system of the implementation of research studies on plant breeding and genetic resources, especially of Turkiye, with the support of IOFS and its programmes. The Chairman also mentioned that they have been working on Seed management strategy that would help provide Kazakhstan with domestically produced crop seeds and reduce import dependency. It was also emphasized that the IOFS could play a vital role in introducing this system within the OIC geography, as well as facilitate in the implementation of national projects.
H.E. Prof. Yerlan A. Baidaulet expressed his willingness to support the initiatives of the NASEC and continue to develop cooperation in various directions through the adoption of Action Plan for 2023 with the respected Institution to enhance the agricultural development of Kazakhstan.
