Research analyst at Solina Centre for International Development and ResearchBeauty Ezinne Japhet provided an analysis of food consuming in Nigeria in the article for The Guardian, Nigerian independent newspaper https://guardian.ng/

Author argues that like any other developing countries, food consumption is feasible in Nigeria for survival only and the country is neglecting nutrient constituents and the impact of food on health. The article refers to the Nigerian Economic Summit Group report that shows 91 million Nigerians living below the poverty line in 2021 and the figures are increasing rapidly.

Another data referred in the article related to the recent UN report that indicates other important figures. Nigeria population constitutes 6 percent of global population, the country ranking 103 among 116 nations estimated with 28.3 per cent on Global Hunger Index with 14 million malnourished children.
Among institutional problems the author is emphasizing farm and processing, logistics and supply chain issues that adversely affect food security, nutrition safety and quality. Lack of reliable and quantitative evidence on food losses poses a challenge to conduct research and generate decisions to implement policies in this sphere.

Conflict, banditry, and other criminal offences are also presenting hindrance in developing giant 34 million hectares of Nigerian arable land.

Author also pays attention to the issue of an unhealthy sedentary lifestyle of the population that is further deteriorating and increasing public health, she sees solutions in developing local products, consuming healthy nutrition, minimizing food wasting and drinking clean water.
