0n 16 June 2022, His Excellency Mr. Yerlan Baidaulet, the Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), virtually met with His Excellency Mr. Mohammad Alsaati, Special Advisor to the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and Bank’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan and CEO of the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund (AFTH), to review bilateral cooperation on the implementation of Resolution adopted by the 17th Extraordinary CFM on the Humanitarian Situation in Afghanistan, held on 18-19 December 2021, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, particularly the “Afghanistan Food Security Programme (AFSP)”, as well as on a wide range of issues that are common in both Institution’s daily work, particularly on food security and agricultural development.
In this context, Mr. Alsaati briefed on the relevant decisions by 47th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the IsDB, held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, on 01-04 June 2022, to highlight that Member States had stressed out the importance of result-oriented programmes and projects in the field of food security considering the current food crises globally, and in the OIC geography, in particular.
The IOFS Director General, on his side, mentioned relevant activities the Organization has been implementing with special focus on AFSP, where he highlighted the humanitarian official visit to Afghanistan, held on 16-19 April 2022, to explain that the IOFS managed to meet many relevant officials of de facto Government, and start one of the 4 immediate response projects, which is the water cleaning machines. He however pointed out that to implement the remaining projects, it would be welcomed a closer support of the IsDB through the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund.
Separately and considering a variety the matters to be bilaterally discussed, the IOFS Director General proposed starting a periodic IsDB – IOFS Coordination Meeting, which was welcomed by Mr. Alsaati, and the first of such meeting would be scheduled at the earliest mutual convenient date.
