IOFS Director General in Official Visit to Republic of Niger

The second leg of the African tour that H.E. Mr. Yerlan A. Baidaulet, Director General of the Islamic Organization of Food Security (IOFS) is conducting in the African Sahel region, has been the Republic of Niger, where on  16 May 2022, he was received on a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou, Prime Minister, Head of Government of the hosting country, in the presence of Mrs. Bana Khadijah Diallo, Director General of the High Authority of Wakf (HAWAQF), and Mr. Sofian Ben Mouaddeb, Senior Country Manager at the IOFS.

 
During the productive exchanges, the Director General had the opportunity to brief on the mission and vision of the IOFS, while expressing his concern about the food insecurity situation in Niger as well as the other Sahelian countries, which are declared as water scarcity hotspots. To this end, he expressed IOFS’ readiness and willingness to work towards supporting the Republic of Niger through a special mandate within the humanitarian initiatives by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), a way forward that was welcomed by H.E. the Prime Minister, who on his side, promised to accordingly follow-up with all concerned.
 
Another bilateral meeting was with H.E. Mr. Tijani Idrissa Abdoulkadri, Minister of Livestock, in which the Director General had the opportunity to highlight the programmer carried out by IOFS in the field of animal production and genetic improvement, which are part of the livestock ecosystem of the IOFS Strategic Vision 2031. In response, the host requested the support of IOFS to his country’s efforts in the field of animal production and the valorization of products of animal origin, he also expressed his wish that IOFS would provide assistance to help Niger benefit from the successful experiences of other Members States in the same field, as well as technology transfer and capacity building for technicians in his Ministry.
It should be mentioned here that other relevant bilateral meetings are expected to be held on 17 May 2022, with concerned authorities of the Republic of Niger, including with the Minister of Agriculture, H.E Mr. Alambédji Abba Issa.
