The IOFS and the World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists Agree on Joint Working on Humanitarian Food Assistance
27 January 2022
On 27 January 2022, His Excellency Mr. Yerlan Baidaulet, the Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) held a virtual meeting with Dr. Tariq Cheema Founder/CEO of the World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists (WCMP), to kickstart bilateral cooperation between the two Organizations on a wide range of activities related with Humanitarian Food Assistance.

Considering the ongoing dire and bleak humanitarian and food insecurity situation in Afghanistan, one of the IOFS Member States, the two entities agreed that the initial major joint program would be in supporting that country through the implementation of the Afghanistan Food Security Program (AFSP), which was adopted by the 17th Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers on the Situation in Afghanistan, held on 19 December 2021 in Islamabad, Islamic Republic of Pakistan. In fact, the WCMP would be providing its institutional support in resource mobilization for an immediate action within the spirit of IOFS Flour for Humanity program, which is centered on providing wheat/flour for those in need.

Additionally, the WCMP is to invite the IOFS to sensitize a wider audience of Muslim potential donors to contribute for the successful implementation of its humanitarian programmes at the Global Donors Forum to be held later in 2022.

It should be mentioned that IOFS was also represented at the meeting by Dr. Ismail Abdelhamid, IOFS Director of Programmes and Projects Office, Ambassador Daulet Yemberdiyev, Director of Cooperation & Protocol Office, and Mr. Abdula Manafi Mutualo, IOFS Senior Liaison Officer, while Mr. Michael Gassner and Mr. Imtiaz Khan were part of WCMP delegation.
