The online International Workshop on the “OIC Country Experience in Food Security Governance for Strengthening South-South Cooperation” organized on 22 December 2021 by the IOFS Secretariat with the participation of 70 representatives of government agencies of OIC member states.
The opening session of the Workshop included the welcoming remarks of H.E. Mr. Shadhan Chandra Majumder, the Minister of Food of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Syed Fakhar Imam, the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Fatih Ünlü, Director General, OIC Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC), and H.E. Mr. Yerlan A. Baidaulet, the Director General of Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS).
The Workshop provided a great platform for presenting country experience in food security governance, namely best practices of Bangladesh, Qatar, Pakistan, UAE and outcomes of the publication of COMCEC on Good Governance for Ensuring Food Security and Nutrition in the OIC Member Countries. These presentations gave an overview of Food Security Strategies in member states and shared recommendations for their application in other countries.
The event also received the feedback from participants regarding the organization of capacity-building training workshops with focus on “Strategic Planning and Policy Development in Food Security” in 2022 for concerned government specialists.
