On October 9, 2019, Director General of IOFS held a meeting with Ambassador of Kingdom of Morocco in Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Abdeljalil Saubry to exchange views and information on a broad range of questions such as cooperation of Muslim countries, food security and safety, history and membership procedures of IOFS, as well as bilateral relationship between the two countries. Morocco expressed interest in membership of IOFS, its procedure rules and mandatory contributions.
The Ambassador noted that agriculture is the most important sector of economy of Morocco and makes up 1/4 of country’s GDP and 40% of all workplaces. Kingdom of Morocco takes a leading position in export of phosphate fertilizers, vegetables, fruits such as tangerines and oranges, olive oil, and fish (3,000 km of coastline). The country is interested in increasing production and development of export, as it occupies the most visible spot in food security of the entire region, Africa and Europe. Morocco is currently implementing 10 - year “Green Plan”, where 960 investment projects have been carried out. Now the project is on its 2nd phase and attaches great importance to development of cooperative facilities. Besides food security, IOFS expressed interest in Islamic (partnership) banking in Morocco, where seven of such financial institutes are operating.
