Official visit of Director-General of IOFS to Uzbekistan

On September 2, Director General of IOFS H.E. Mr. Yerlan A. Baidaulet within the 46th Annual Meetings of the IsDB Group in Tashkent, held a working discussion with H.E. Mr.Jamshid A.Khojaev, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Director-General of the IOFS expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and noted the importance of consolidation of the efforts and resources of the international and regional community to address challenges in food security.

HE Jamshid Khojaev was briefed on the ongoing implementation of IOFS programs whereafter he expressed his vital interest in participation in most of those programs that correlate with the national agenda on food security of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Also, he stressed the importance of willing to leave invaluable patrimony to the next generation, especially through healthy and safe food.

During the meeting, the Director-General of IOFS HE Yerlan A. Baidaulet thanked the Minister for the active participation of Uzbek stakeholders in the events of the Organization.

Also, the Director-General of IOFS informed HE Jamshid Khojaev about the 4th General Assembly of IOFS and got his personal confirmation to be therein.

Furthermore, the Uzbek Minister of Agriculture assured that he does not see any obstacles to Uzbekistan joining IOFS soon and he would consider the possibility of announcing it on the forthcoming 4th General Assembly of the IOFS.

The next meeting was conducted with the OIC ASG Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo. During the bilateral meeting topical issues on improving international cooperation within the IOFS platform and mentioned the importance of all IOFS programs, especially Plant Genetic Resource Bank development, Strategic Commodity development, as well as Food Security Governance and others. The parties agreed to intensify collaboration in all areas of ensuring food security: agricultural development, research potential, humanitarian assistance, market expansion both regionally and to all OIC countries.

The Director-General of IOFS also held meetings with Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan H.E. Mr Darkhan Satybaldy and Minister of Planning of the Republic of Niger H.E. Mr Rabiou Abdou.

Together with that within IsDB Annual Meetings Opening Press-conference was held where the Master Wakala agreement with Dr. Yasser Gado, the  Director, Treasury of the Islamic Development Bank was signed. Tomorrow other important meetings are scheduled.
