Director-General of IOFS holds an online meeting with UN Special Envoy
02 June 2021
On June 2, Director-General of IOFS H.E. Yerlan Baidaulet spoke to UN Special Envoy to the 2021 Food Systems Summit Dr. Agnes Kalibata via video call about the participation of IOFS in the abovementioned summit. The event would provide an excellent platform for global and regional dialogue on national food systems and help the participants reach a common vision of an advanced and resilient food system.

At the meeting, IOFS offered to organize an international conference “Best Practices for Building Sustainable Food Systems in the OIC region” as the inter-regional dialogue of South-South cooperation for the UN Summit in July. IOFS believes that the Summit would be an important step towards finding sustainable long-term solutions in the area of food security that would be meaningful globally. The proposal was supported by the United Nations, and the sides agreed to determine a more appropriate date and engage more member states in the event.

It is worth mentioning that the UN and the OIC reached an agreement to raise their level of cooperation in a number of fields, including food security and agriculture during the joint General Meeting on May 3, 2012.

Dr. Agnes Kalibata is a Rwandan agricultural scientist and policymaker, who leads all general activities on UN FSS and provides strategic guidance towards the high-level 2021 Food Systems Summit.
