The United Nations World Food Program said that food in Gaza is still available, but the closure of the crossings into the Strip may soon cause a scarcity of goods, including food, the United Nations said that nearly 60,000 people have had to leave or flee their homes in Gaza, 47,000 people have taken refuge in UN schools. The World Food Program also said more than two-thirds of Gaza's two million people were already suffering from food insecurity before the current escalation of violence. The UN agency said fresh produce prices are now rising because farmers cannot access their land.
It worth mentioning that 53% of Gaza's population lives below the poverty line and the unemployment rate is 45%. The World Food Program said it needs an additional $ 31.8 million to be able to continue providing regular food assistance to more than 435,000 vulnerable people in Gaza and the West Bank over the next six months, and an additional $ 14 million is needed for the World Food Program to be able to assist. Emergency over the next three months for 160,000 affected people in Gaza and 60,000 in the West Bank.
