On April 5, the IOFS Program Managers Mrs. Makpal Bulatova and Ms. Shahlo Atabaeva paid a working visit to the SMIIC headquarters in Istanbul, Turkey.
The Director-General of SMIIC, H.E. Mr. İhsan Övüt presented the current projects of SMIIC, experience in the CA area and other exciting capacity-building activities. Additionally, he discussed the action plan with SMIIC for 2021-2022 as indicated in the MOU and the implementation of joint activities under the program Food Safety and Halal food.
Together with the SMIIC team, the IOFS delegates reviewed the possibility to conduct online capacity building training for CA countries to raise awareness of the “gene to fork" concept under the framework of the joint action of the IOFS program.
As a follow-up to the previous agreement between IOFS, SMIIC, and ITFC, the three cycles of capacity-building training for CA countries were scheduled. The draft modules and concept of the training will be developed by the SMIIC team and discussed within the institutions. It was agreed that the first cycle will be conducted online due to current COVID-19 situation.
The Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC) was founded in 2010 to establish uniformity in standardization, metrology and accreditation activities in the OIC member states.
