On February 3, the Secretariat of IOFS discussed perspectives of collaborative projects with the SESRIC team. The IOFS Director-General H. E. Yerlan Baidaulet proposed to kick-start the bilateral cooperation in food-related data exchange within the Memorandum of Understanding, signed with SESRIC on November 27, 2019.
According to the Action Plan adopted by the Inaugural General Assembly and Resolution No. IOFS/GA/1-13 adopted by the Second General Assembly, the IOFS was tasked to create the Food Balance Database, which is currently running on the Qlik Sense platform. The Database assesses the state of food security at the country level, analyses trade flows between IOFS/OIC Member States and the trade relations with the rest of the world. The food balance data includes information about production maps, water resources, and agricultural commodities based on principles of halal.
The Director-General of SESRIC H. E. Nebil Dabur assured that his institution is open to sharing its experience and suggested to come forward with proposals within specific projects. He expressed willingness to assist IOFS and improve its knowledge of collecting and disseminating data. Mr. Dabur pointed out the special role the IOFS plays in the domain of food security and agriculture in the Muslim world and invited the IOFS team to visit the SESRIC headquarters for enhancing the technical collaboration.
