The meeting of the Director-General of IOFS Y.A. Baidaulet with the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the Republic of Kazakhstan with Y. Abdelgani

On October 5, 2020, the meeting of the General Director of the IOFS Yerlan Baidaulet with the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Yusef Abdelgani took place.

During the meeting, Y. Baidaulet expressed satisfaction with the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between the IOFS and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.  He introduced the Ambassador with brief information about the IOFS and its current activities. Y. Baidaulet noted that the key areas of IOFS activities are the creation and implementation of a number of strategic programs and projects, among which the following should be noted: the development of Strategic Products, the creation of Food Security Reserves, the International Islamic Food Processors Association, National Gene Banks, Centers of Excellence and etc.

Halal and food safety issues are also at the center of IOFS activities.
The IOFS Secretariat has developed and is currently developing the Food Balance Database of the IOFS member countries.

At the same time, the Director General noted that by the decisions of the 2nd General Assembly of the IOFS (28-29 August 2019 in Jeddah), the scale of mandatory contributions for the participating countries was approved and adopted.

Taking into account the calls and resolutions of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC member countries and the OIC summits, as well as based on the enormous agricultural and agro-industrial potential of Jordan, both sides raised the issue of Jordan's accession to the IOFS. He also noted that the most convenient moment for this could be using the site of the 3rd General Assembly of the IOFS, which is planned to be held in virtual mode on December 2-3 of this year in Istanbul, Turkey.
The meeting also noted the importance of enhancing cooperation between the national food sectors, strengthening coordination between all members of the OIC.

In turn, the Jordanian diplomat agreed and reaffirmed the special importance of the IOFS as an international organization capable of overcoming the problems of both food security and hunger, taking into account the influx of refugees from Palestine, Syria, Iraq and other countries.
