On May 20, 2020 Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of Somalia H.E. Said Hussein Iid and Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) H.E. Yerlan Baidaulet talked on the areas of cooperation between the two sides in ensuring food security in the Federal Republic of Somalia during a phone call.
IOFS Director General expressed willingness of the Secretariat to coordinate humanitarian aid or project assistance via strategic partnership with other intermational organizations to Somalia, especially in the current situation with the COVID-19 worldwide (as per the respective Memorandum) and asked the Minister to provide via the Foreign Ministry the information and contact details of a governmental agency or an NGO, which deals with official humanitarian aid. Minister informed the Director General that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Federal Government of Somalia deals with such issues and a detailed information will be conveyed to the IOFS in due course. The Minister also noted that Somalia is open for cooperation in all food security related issues in response to IOFS official letters.
H.E. Minister Said Hussein Iid was briefed by the IOFS Director General about on-going IOFS programmes. The Minister thanked and assured H.E. Yerlan Baidaulet that Somalian expert on genetic resources will take part in the forthcoming Workshop for the Development of Gene Bank in OIC Member States.
The two sides reached an agreement on activating cooperation between each other.
