THE 10TH IOFS EXECUTIVE BOARD: IOFS ACTIVITIES FOR 2022 COVERED 45 OIC MEMBER COUNTRIES

The 10th IOFS Executive Board Meeting of the IOFS convened in a hybrid format on 13 December 2022

The leadership of the Islamic Organization for Food Security welcomed the new composition of the Executive Board that arrived to Astana, Kazakhstan for the 10th IOFS Executive Board Meeting. The Honorable Board is comprised of members from the following states: the State of Qatar, the UAE, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Cameroon, the Republic of the Gambia, the Republic of Kazakhstan (permanent member), and the Director-General of IOFS (Non-Voting member), and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as Non-Voting Honorary Chairman of the Executive Board.

The agenda of the meeting included an overview of the outcomes of the year in the implementation of sustainable food security in the OIC geography, a brainstorming session on prospects for enhancing the IOFS Strategic Plan for 2023, in depth dialogue on the resolutions adopted by the 5th General Assembly of the IOFS, and official statements from the Chair of the Executive Board and the Honorable Members of the Board.

The Director General of the IOFS, H.E. Yerlan A. Baidaulet, began with a report on the activities of the organization and implementation of the OIC food security agenda from June 2022 to date. In the 11 months of 2022, the IOFS held 19 events, which covered the participation of 45 OIC member countries in offline and hybrid formats. An analysis report proved that the states participating in more activities had higher results and outcomes. Therefore, the IOFS has been able to successfully position itself as a key platform for coordinating all flows of food security programs in the countries of the Islamic World.

The Director-General and other Secretariat employees then provided a report on the status of the 16 programmes of the IOFS, and plans for the proper execution of the programmes. The Executive Board reviewed the outcomes and effectiveness of the projects and programs of the organization and updated the implementation plan of the IOFS Strategic Plan for 2023.

Next, the final document, on the resolutions of the 5th General Assembly, adopted on 11 October 2022 in Tunisia, was circulated among the Honorable members of the Board. In particular, the Honorable members discussed the criteria and concept of the establishment of Regional Offices of the IOFS. The leadership also elaborated on the relocation of IFPA, a fully owned subsidiary of IOFS, to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates and reviewed the statement of the newly appointed CEO of the IFPA in Dubai.

To conclude, the Chairman of the Executive Board of IOFS, H.E. Dr. Masoud Jarallah Al-Marri, provided a statement on behalf of the Islamic Organization for Food Security, and shared his plans on the upcoming 6th General Assembly. This was followed by the statements from the new composition of the Board members on behalf of their esteemed states. The Director General, in turn, announced that starting from next year, the Annual IOFS Report will be published. He also thanked all the members for a productive session and expressed gratitude for the valuable support of the respective member states.
