Sudan Assures its Support to IOFS on the Sidelines of the 38th COMCEC Ministerial Session in Türkiye

On 27 November 2022, His Excellency Mr. Yerlan A. Baidaulet, the Director General of the Islamic Organization of Food Security (IOFS), had bilateral meeting with His Excellency Mr. Gebreil Ibrahim Mohamed Fediel, Minister of Finance & Economic Planning of the Republic of the Sudan, on the sidelines of the 38th Ministerial Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC), being held in Istanbul, Republic of Türkiye.

The two sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, particularly on the role the IOFS may play in implementing relevant food security programmes to benefit Sudanese people, as well as helping the development of its economy through appropriate private sector activities within the framework of the International Islamic Food Processing Association (IFPA), an IOFS Subsidiary. In this context, the Sudanese Minister assured of his country’s unwavering support to the important work the IOFS is undertaking and conveyed that all arrangements were finalized to ensure a successful official visit by the IOFS Director General to Sudan from 30 November to 02 December 2022.

Separately, the Senior Officials adopted all related documents, including the Resolutions of the 38th COMCEC Ministerial Session, which included items on food security and agricultural development, particularly the encouragement for the Member States, the Islamic Development Bank Group and other relevant OIC Institutions to identify key areas of cooperation and provide necessary technical assistance and financial support to the IOFS.
