Kampala, Uganda – 25-27 June 2024 - The IOFS delegation attended the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) workshop on Enhancing Food Security, Climate Resilience and Agro-Industrial Development through Cassava Production and Processing in Uganda and presented its preliminary findings from the joint Cassava Value Chain Program project with the IsDB and UNDP. This project encompasses a comprehensive value chain analysis for cassava in the priority countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger, Togo, and Sierra Leone.
The Regional Cassava Value Chain Program (RCVCP) aims to contribute to food security, foster economic growth, and improve household incomes through enhanced production, processing, marketing, and support for private sector involvement in the cassava value chain. The target countries of the program include Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mozambique, Niger, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Uganda.
At the opening ceremony of the workshop, Dr. Ismail Abdelhamid, Head of the Projects Office of IOFS, emphasized the importance of partnerships in addressing the challenges facing the agricultural sector and stressed the need to decrease food loss.
The IOFS delegation, along with consultants Dr. William Agyei-Manu and Dr. David Sohinto, provided an in-depth analysis of the production, processing, distribution, and sustainability of cassava in each respective country.
The event facilitated the sharing and receiving of technology and practices related to the cassava value chain, including post-harvest loss reduction, processing, nutrition, financing, and trade. It also provided a platform for concerned partners to exchange insights and visions on solutions and pathways to support cassava value chain development in various regions.
On the sidelines of the event, the IOFS delegation engaged in fruitful cooperation with representatives of Terri-Agri Solutions, Mavah Equity, the Saudi Fund for Development, and the Director General of ICBA, Dr. Tarifa A. Alzaabi.
