The seminar, focusing on climate-resilient rice production, convened 45 experts from West Africa, organized by the National Rural Development Support Agency (ANADER) as part of the RICOWAS project. Funded by the Adaptation Fund, RICOWAS targets climate-vulnerable regions reliant on rain-fed agriculture, particularly for rice. Led by researchers like Dr. Erika Styger and Dr. Karim Traore, the seminar introduced climate-smart cultivation practices to empower rice-growing communities and diversify economic activities. Trained as master trainers, experts will further disseminate knowledge to local advisors, supporting rice producers at the grassroots level across 13 West African countries. With rice consumption projected to rise by 32%, RICOWAS aims to ensure food security through sustainable practices, marking a significant step towards a resilient future for the region.
