Porto-Novo, Benin – 9-12 September 2024 - In response to the pressing need for sustainable farming solutions in Benin, the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) collaborating in the "Increase of the Capacities of Benin in the Production of Organic Fertilizers." This initiative directly addresses the challenges faced by local farmers, particularly the degradation of soil and the high cost of chemical fertilizers, which have limited productivity and harmed the environment. The program focuses on empowering farmers with the skills to convert agricultural waste into organo-mineral fertilizers, providing an affordable and eco-friendly alternative to chemical inputs.
With a focus on promoting sustainable agricultural practices, the training delivered by Dr. Abdelaziz HAJJAJI, responsible for programs and projects at IOFS, emphasizes the importance of improving soil fertility and health without relying on chemical molecules. This is a crucial step in addressing the ongoing food security concerns in the region, where many farmers struggle with access to expensive agricultural inputs.
