Kazakhstan wheat crop set to rebound in 2024/25
07 May 2024

According to the United States Department of Agriculture attaché in Astana, Kazakhstan's wheat production is expected to rebound in the 2024/25 season, reaching 15.80 million tonnes compared to 12.11 million in the previous year. This improvement comes despite heavy flooding in the north and west regions of the country, largely mitigated by Soviet-era dikes. While some damage to rural areas and livestock occurred, wheat fields were relatively spared. The projected harvested area is 13.20 million hectares, with yields expected to increase to 1.20 tonnes per hectare. Wheat exports are forecasted to rise to 11.10 million tonnes, with imports easing to two million tonnes. Total consumption is expected to reach 6.20 million tonnes, resulting in rising ending stocks of nearly 1.96 million tonnes.
