Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan – 20 January 2025 – His Excellency Ambassador Berik Aryn, the Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), welcome the recent announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza, marking a crucial step toward alleviating the dire humanitarian crisis faced by the population therein. The ceasefire brings hope for stability and opens avenues for much-needed food relief and other humanitarian assistance to reach affected communities.
The Director General further expressed the Organization’s deep concern over the escalating food insecurity and malnutrition caused by the prolonged conflict. He firms believes that the ceasefire provides a critical opportunity to address the immediate humanitarian needs of the people of Gaza, particularly in terms of food security, which has been severely impacted by restricted access to essential supplies since the beginning of the war.
The Director General seized the opportunity to kindly urge Member States, relevant Institutions of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and international partners to take advantage of the ceasefire to facilitate the unhindered delivery of food assistance to vulnerable populations, particularly children and the elderly.
In this context, the IOFS remains ready to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of food relief initiatives in Gaza.
