IOFS Strengthens International Partnerships at the Agricultural Investment Forum in Samarkand

On 8 September 2023, in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan, the Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security, HE Prof. Yerlan Alimzhanuly Baidaulet participated in the opening ceremony of the Agricultural Investment Forum.

During this significant event, the Director General engaged in key discussions that hold the potential to shape the future of international cooperation and food security within the region. The highlight of these discussions included a bilateral meeting between Prof. Baidaulet and HE Qu Dongyou, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) where both sides evaluated the current stage of cooperation and explored avenues to further enhance bilateral and multilateral partnerships. 

Furthermore, His Excellency Prof.Yerlan A. Baidaulet, Director-General of the Islamic Organization of Food Security, held a productive meeting with His Excellency Mr. Mohammed Mehdi Boroumandi, the Deputy Minister of Horticulture at the Ministry of Agriculture of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During this encounter, both parties delved into in-depth discussions regarding the critical issue of enhancing food security within the region. Director-General H.E. Prof. Baidaulet recognized the significant potential of agriculture in the Islamic Republic of Iran and emphasized the pivotal role that Iranian agribusiness plays in developing sustainable food supply chains within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation ( OIC ). 

He further highlighted the promising opportunities presented by the International Islamic Food Processing Association (IFPA), established by IOFS, to promote trade within the OIC. The Director General extended a warm invitation to the Iranian delegation to participate in upcoming IOFS events, aimed at facilitating the expansion and intensification of trade and economic cooperation, as well as the development of the food industry among IOFS Member States.

Deputy Minister H.E. Mr. Boroumandi echoed the paramount importance of food security, reaffirming the shared commitment to strengthening partnerships to achieve common goals in the field of food security.

In conclusion, both parties agreed on the necessity of formulating a comprehensive and structured work plan to foster highly effective collaboration with the Iranian side, solidifying their commitment to advancing food security and international cooperation.
