IOFS-SESRIC Webinar on Digitalisation in Food Security and Agriculture

On 9 July 2024, the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) in collaboration with the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) conducted the Webinar on Digitalisation in Food Security and Agriculture via an online Zoom video conferencing platform.

31 researchers and private sector representatives from 11 OIC Member States attended the event to explore the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics on agricultural development. The webinar featured insightful presentations and discussions from renowned scholars and industry professionals, emphasizing the integration of digital technologies in enhancing food security and agricultural sustainability.

Prof. Dr. Muazzam A. Khan KHATTAK from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad provided the overview of the role of AI in agriculture and its impact on Food Industry. He also described the stages for proper and effective AI application, as well as presented the benefits for introducing Agriculture 4.0 Tech. Finally he spoke on use of IoT in different agricultural sectors, and ethics of AI. Prof. Dr. Nazia M. Habib from Cambridge University delved into strategies for integrating digitalization in agriculture, sharing her expertise on resilience and sustainable development.

Another highlight of the webinar was the presentation by Mr. Mehmet Erdoğdu, Senior Consultant at NODA Technologies, on the Agriculture E-Governance and Digital Farms Registry Platform. Mr. Erdoğdu showcased how satellite data and remote sensing are revolutionizing agricultural management and beyond, emphasizing the platform's capabilities in farm boundary detection, crop identification, real-time health monitoring, and yield forecasting. It underscored the potential of digital farm registry platforms in providing actionable insights for government administrations, enhancing resource allocation, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The event concluded with a comprehensive discussion led by Eng. Amina Habiboullah, CEO of InsightEx, on the application of AI technologies and satellite data engineering for agriculture and environmental monitoring in Mauritania.

The webinar provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and highlighted the critical role of digital technologies in addressing global food security challenges.
