Astana, Kazakhstan – On 02 August 2024, a Team of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) composed of Mr. Abdula Manafi Mutualo, Chief Multilateral Affairs Officer, Mr. Sofian Ben Mouaddeb, Chief Countries Affair Officer, and Mr. Emre Yuksek, Humanitarian Affairs Manager, was received at Office of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana to exchange views on how to start bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) concluded with the EU in 2015.
Mr. Maciej Adam Madalinski, Head of Political, Press and Information Section, led the hosting Team in Astana, while Mr. Patrice Lenormand, Head of the South-West Asia and Arabian Peninsula Unit at the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), led the Team that virtually attended the exchanges from Brussels.
The two sides touched different issues of mutual interest with particular emphasis on the humanitarian field in which the discussions on how ECHO would engage with the IOFS in potentially supporting the implementation of the Afghanistan Food Security Program (AFSP).
It should be mentioned that the IOFS and the EU intend to continue consultations remotely and/or in-person towards a result-oriented bilateral cooperation.
