IOFS participates in the First Meeting of Coordination Council of Partners for Water Sector Development in Kazakhstan

Astana, Kazakhstan - 30 September 2024 - The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation announced the creation of a Coordination Council of Partners for Water Sector Development in Kazakhstan, which includes representatives from the said Ministry, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), financial institutions, donor communities, international organizations, and other key stakeholders.
 
The Coordination Council aims to promote collaboration among stakeholders, share best practices in water management, implement monitoring and evaluation systems, enhance regional cooperation to improve resilience against climate change and natural disasters, and support the development of important strategic documents.
 
The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) was represented at that inauguration meeting by Assistant Director General Amb. Khusrav Noziri  and Program Manager Amina Akhmetzhanova.
 
In his intervention Amb. Khusrav Noziri stated that the establishment of Coordination Council is a significant milestone for Kazakhstan's water sector. It will foster collaboration among government bodies and international organizations, leading to better resource management and greater resilience to climate issues.

He also highlighted the importance of initiatives focused on integrated water management and innovative solutions to tackle regional water challenges, noting that a working group has been formed between the IOFS and the Ministry to discuss collaborative activities, including workshops on integrated water management and joint projects aimed at addressing water issues in Central Asia, such as the creation of the IOFS Center of Floods Resilience for Food Security.
