On 02 August, 2023, the IOFS team participated in the Kazakhstan – Afghanistan Business Forum held in Astana, Kazakhstan. The primary objective of this forum was to strengthen the economic ties between the two countries, which have been underperforming despite Afghanistan being one of the major trading partners of Kazakhstan in the Central Asia region.
The IOFS delegation consisted of Mr Emre Yuksek (Humanitarian Operation Manager), Mr Talgat Kupeshev (Trade & Investment Manager), and Ms Gulsum Kenenbayeva (IFPA Head of International Membership).
The Forum began with an official segment where both sides presented information about their import and export activities, with a focus on their production potentials. Following this, a business matching session took place, with more than 50 Afghan businesses participating, all related to Food Security, including agriculture production, seed business, dry fruits, juices, animal forage, and various food processing enterprises.
The Forum is set to continue its deliberations over the upcoming days, featuring the participation of high-ranking officials. It will involve further business matching opportunities and an exhibition showcasing Afghanistan's domestically made products.
