Rabat, Morocco - 4 December 2024 – The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) has launched a comprehensive capacity-building program to strengthen the livestock sector across North African Member States. The program, featuring a series of webinars, was inaugurated with a three-day event held in Rabat, Morocco, from December 4 to 6, 2024. It brought together experts and stakeholders to tackle pressing issues and explore innovative solutions for the region’s livestock industry.
The initiative places a strong emphasis on enhancing livestock productivity through effective breeding practices. One of the key areas of focus is the importance of breeding as a critical factor in improving livestock productivity, quality, and resilience. Another priority is the transformation of breeding into a science-driven practice, with discussions centered on the latest advancements in breeding technologies and their practical applications.
To ensure the program addresses the specific needs of each country, participating nations provided detailed insights into their livestock breeding programs. This exchange of information will enable the initiative to identify and respond to unique challenges and opportunities within the region.
Beyond these core topics, the program will also delve into other critical areas, such as combating genetic erosion and incorporating modern scientific methods into livestock management. Subsequent in-person sessions are planned to provide participants with an in-depth exploration of these themes.
By equipping livestock professionals with cutting-edge knowledge and skills, IOFS aims to foster sustainable development in the North African livestock sector. This initiative aligns with the organization’s overarching mission to ensure food security and enhance livelihoods throughout the region.
