Malé, Maldives – 3 February 2025 - The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), in collaboration with The Maldives National University (MNU), has successfully inaugurated the Conference on Climate Resilient Agriculture for Food Security in Maldives. The event brings together leading experts, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to address pressing challenges in food security, climate change adaptation, and sustainable agriculture in small island developing states.
The opening ceremony was graced by Her Excellency the First Lady, Madam Sajida Mohammed, along with Honorable Ministers including H.E. Dr. Maryam Mariya, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, H.E. Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Tourism and Environment, and H.E. Mr. Ahmed Shiyam, Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources and the H.E Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam, Vice-Chancellor of The Maldives National University.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Berik Aryn emphasized the critical role of climate-smart agriculture in securing food systems for island nations like the Maldives. He reiterated IOFS’s commitment to supporting member states in enhancing agricultural resilience, sustainable fisheries, Vertical farming, hydroponic, soil and water management and innovative farming practices.
