08 August 2024

Kazakhstan's Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, held a meeting with Uzbekistan's Minister of Agriculture, Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov, emphasizing the priority of agro-industrial cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. In 2023, the trade turnover in the agricultural sector reached $1.7 billion, with Uzbekistan accounting for $1.51 billion. In the first half of 2024, the turnover reached $758 million, with exports totaling $635.7 million. Saparov expressed interest in strengthening ties in crop and livestock production, noting that Kazakhstan has planted over 23 million hectares this year, expecting a good harvest, and is ready to supply over 1 million tons of grain. Plans include increasing meat exports and developing export opportunities, with 80 Kazakh enterprises being added to the exporters' registry. Investment projects are actively being implemented under the Roadmap, including deep grain processing and vegetable oil refining. In the Turkistan region, a feedlot for 10,000 head of cattle and a meat processing complex with a capacity of 1,500 tons per day are under construction. Projects are also being developed for sericulture and joint grain cultivation. Kazakhstan is interested in Uzbek experience in leather processing and cotton production. In 2024, approximately 1,500 tons of high-quality seeds were imported from Uzbekistan. In the Maktaaral district, a cotton-textile complex and a logistics hub worth 21 billion tenge, with a capacity of 160,000 tons, are planned for launch in 2026-2027. Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov confirmed support for proposals to strengthen cooperation and jointly develop agriculture, highlighting the potential for further collaboration in sunflower and hide processing. Following the meeting, a memorandum of cooperation was signed on growing grain and oilseed crops in Kazakhstan.
