22 August 2024

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has set tariff quotas for the import of certain types of meat and dairy whey into the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) for 2025. For beef, quotas are allocated as follows: 21,000 tons for Kazakhstan, 9,500 tons for Armenia, 5,000 tons for Kyrgyzstan, and 570,000 tons for Russia. Pork quotas are set at 9,400 tons for Armenia, 20,000 tons for Belarus, and 2,000 tons for Kyrgyzstan. Poultry meat and by-products quotas are distributed as: 140,000 tons for Kazakhstan, 35,100 tons for Armenia, 10,900 tons for Belarus, 58,000 tons for Kyrgyzstan, and 364,000 tons for Russia. Dairy whey import quotas are 700 tons for Armenia and 15,000 tons for Russia. The EEC explained that the quotas for Kazakhstan and Russia align with their World Trade Organization (WTO) accession protocols, while those for Armenia, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan reflect the difference between consumption and production, taking into account the countries' requests. According to the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union, the EEC establishes these quotas based on consumption and production balances within member states and their WTO obligations.
