Doha, Qatar - 14 January 2025 – His Excellency Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), commenced his official visit to the State of Qatar with a series of meaningful discussions aimed at fostering stronger collaboration on food security, sustainable agriculture, and climate resilience across OIC Member States. His Excellency Arman Issagaliyev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the State of Qatar, also joined these meetings, underlining Kazakhstan’s commitment to supporting joint efforts in these critical areas.
During the visit, H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn held productive engagements with:
• H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, to explore collaborative strategies for addressing climate challenges. The discussions included ideas for climate-smart agricultural solutions and environmental sustainability initiatives, as well as opportunities to co-host events during major international gatherings, such as COP30 in Brazil (2025) and COP17 in Mongolia (2026), to showcase shared efforts on climate adaptation and sustainable agriculture.
• H.E. Mr. Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, Minister of Municipality, to address pressing agricultural and food security challenges. Both sides exchanged ideas on enhancing local food systems, with Qatar reiterating its support for the upcoming OIC Food Security Strategic Plan meeting, set to take place in Doha later this year. Opportunities for collaboration in areas such as animal breeding, the development of a Gene Bank, and the advancement of strategic commodities were also discussed.
• H.E. Mr. Fahad bin Hamad Al Sulaiti, Director General of Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), where the focus was on strengthening partnerships and supporting impactful food security initiatives. H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn expressed heartfelt gratitude to the State of Qatar and H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for the generous financial support of $2 million USD announced during the 6th General Assembly in October 2023 in Doha. This funding will contribute to vital IOFS projects promoting food security and sustainable development.
These discussions reaffirmed the shared commitment to addressing global challenges through collective efforts. The participation of H.E. Ambassador Arman Issagaliyev highlighted the spirit of partnership between Kazakhstan and Qatar, while the meetings emphasized Qatar’s proactive role in regional initiatives and IOFS’s dedication to promoting sustainable agricultural practices across OIC Member States.
