Director General of IOFS launches Conference on Resilient Agriculture and Climate Adaptation and Holds High Level Meetings in Tunis

The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) launched the Regional Conference on Resilient Agriculture in IOFS Member States – Climate Adaptation and Food Security in Tunisia, under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Maritime Fisheries of the Republic of Tunisia, HE Mr. Abdelmonem Belati. The opening session of the conference was honored by the presence of HE Prof. Yerlan Alimzhanuly Baidaulet, Director General of IOFS, and esteemed dignitaries. 

Participants engaged in productive discussions focused on developing resilient agricultural practices and adapting to climate change in order to safeguard food production and ensure sustainable development in the region.

Following the conference, the Director General of the IOFS and the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tunisia had the privilege of participating in a webinar with the U.S. Department of State titled "Seeding the Future: Governance Approaches to Building and Sustaining Food Security." The Webinar provided an opportunity to exchange ideas and best practices on food security with international stakeholders.

In addition, the Director General of IOFS and the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tunisia held a fruitful discussion, considering the Minister's current chairmanship of the IOFS General Assembly. The conversation explored strategic collaboration and initiatives to enhance food security efforts within IOFS Member States.

During his working visit in Tunisia, HE Prof. Yerlan Baidaulet also held several bilateral meetings with high-level representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources, and Fishing, including the Director General of Organic Agriculture, HE Samia Maamer. Noteworthy meetings were held with Mr. Philippe Ankers, the Representative to Tunisia and Coordinator for North Africa of the FAO, Dr. Rokia Goldmann from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH,  and Prof. Dr. M. Azam Khan, Chairman of the Department of Horticulture at the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi.

These meetings provided an opportunity to strengthen partnerships and explore avenues for collaboration in various areas related to agricultural development, organic farming, and research and innovation in agriculture.

The IOFS is dedicated to promoting cooperation among its member states, fostering sustainable agricultural practices, and ensuring food security for all. Through events like the Regional Conference on Resilient Agriculture, the organization aims to facilitate knowledge sharing, encourage dialogue, and drive collective efforts towards building a resilient and food-secure future for the Islamic world.
