13 September 2024

On September 10, Kazakh Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov held bilateral meetings with Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, and Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, Director-General of the OPEC Fund for International Development, to explore opportunities for collaboration on water sector projects. During the discussions, Nurzhigitov presented the Comprehensive Plan for the Development of the Water Sector for 2024-2028, highlighting initiatives such as the construction and reconstruction of water management facilities. He extended an invitation to investors to partner in areas like automation and digitization of the water industry, groundwater management, water pipeline reconstruction, and specialist training. The meetings also addressed enhancing the capabilities of key institutions, including the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Water Economy, the Information and Analytical Center for Water Resources, and the National Hydrogeological Service. The investors expressed interest in these projects, leading to the signing of a negotiation protocol with the Islamic Development Bank, which facilitates future agreements and substantial investments in Kazakhstan's water sector. Additionally, the Arab Coordination Group has shown interest in financing $7 billion worth of infrastructure and social projects in Kazakhstan.
