18 July 2024

Saudi Arabia is intensifying its efforts towards food security with significant investments in the agriculture sector of the Al-Baha region, aligned with Vision 2030 goals. The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has announced five new projects through its FURAS portal, aiming to boost self-sufficiency despite the country's predominantly desert landscape. These initiatives encompass orchards, coffee cultivation, palm trees, flower production, and wild plants. Notably, the Kingdom has already achieved self-sufficiency in dates, fresh dairy products, and table eggs. The projects include a large-scale coffee plantation project and the Al-Ennab Village initiative near Al-Janabeen Dam, focusing on palm and fruit trees. Other ventures involve lavender and flower nurseries, emphasizing sustainability and enhanced agricultural productivity. With bid submission deadlines set for September, these projects are pivotal in securing long-term food security and reinforcing Saudi Arabia's agricultural resilience amid challenging environmental conditions. Additionally, the launch of the Saudi AgriFood Tech Alliance underscores efforts to leverage technological solutions in agriculture, involving a diverse network of stakeholders across sectors.
