The African Development Bank has called for increased financing of sustainable agricultural policies, practices, and innovations during the Africa Food Systems Summit 2024 held in Kigali, Rwanda, from September 2-6. Under the theme “Innovate, Accelerate and Scale: Delivering food systems transformation in a digital and climate era,” the Summit gathered stakeholders to discuss solutions for transforming Africa's food systems. The Bank hosted three side events focusing on updates from the Dakar 2 Summit, fertilizer and soil health, and enhancing dialogue between its Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) and the Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils (VACS) initiative. Panelists, including ministers from Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Sierra Leone, shared their countries' progress, while representatives from organizations like AFAP and Mastercard highlighted the critical role of the private sector in supporting farmers. Marie Claire Kalihangabo emphasized the urgent need for increased financing in fertilizer production, and Dr. Agnes Matilda Kalibata announced a partnership to co-chair the VACS initiative. Philip Boahen stressed the importance of integrating digital agriculture and climate-resilient technologies into national strategies. The Summit concluded with renewed commitments to transform food systems across Africa.
