IOFS TO HOST THE 16TH UN-OIC GENERAL MEETING ON COOPERATION IN 2024

The final Report adopted by the 15th Session of the Biennial General Cooperation Meeting between the Secretariats of the United Nations (UN) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and their specialized organizations and agencies, held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, on 20 July 2022, approved and included the kind offer of His Excellency Mr. Yerlan A. Baidaulet, the Director General of the Islamic Organization of Food Security (IOFS), to host the next biannual gathering in the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2024.



 
The closing ceremony was co-chaired by Amb. Tarig Ali Bakhiet, OIC Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs/Special Envoy of the OIC Secretary General for Afghanistan, and Amb. Khaled Khiari, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs. The co-Chairs were consistent in urging both sides to be committed to follow-up process of all agreed activities that are part of the Matrix 2022-24, which was finalized through intensive deliberations during the three-day coordination meeting. In fact, the Meeting decided to hold, twice a year, virtual consultations to review ongoing agreed activities and possibly identifying potentials for further cooperation with the view of ensuring information sharing on major OIC/UN scheduled meetings and conferences and other relevant activities, as required.
 
Separately and upon instructions of the IOFS Director General, Mr. Abdula Manafi Mutualo, IOFS Senior Liaison Officer, held official exchanges with the Representatives of the Office of the Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) towards evaluating potential areas of bilateral cooperation that may be materialized with joint activities within the IOFS Strategic Framework with special focus on Pilar D, Private Sector Driven Agro-Food Trade and Investment Promotion. In near future, the two Organizations are expected to study, agree and sign a Memorandum of Understanding on institutional cooperation in the aforesaid field of relevance to IOFS.
