UAE based multimedia producer Nilanjana Gupta for ‘The National’ Middle East news platform reported about Emirati businessman who produces pineapples without soil at greenhouses at the farm in the desert of Al Aweer in Dubai. Grown on the water-based nutrient solutions in hydroponic greenhouses this tropical fruit was harvested in May in volume of more than 4,000.

Established in 2005 the farm was designed for growing dates, however cultivator decided to challenge Emirati uncongenial climate to produce sweet pineapples to consume throughout the year tropical harvest.

Farmer was trying to explore enabling environment for higher crop through checking open sky, greenhouse and under trees’ shade growing. Consequently, greenhouse growing has been proven as the most effective method of pineapple growing.
