On March 12, 2022, the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) Director-General H.E. Mr Yerlan Baidaulet had a meeting with the Minister of Municipality of the State of Qatar, H.E. Dr Abdulla bin Adbulaziz Al-Subaie, and with the Director of Food Security Department, Dr. Masoud Jarallah Al-Marry. The meeting was held at the Qatar International Agricultural and Environmental Exhibition’s sidelines, which is now being conducted in Doha and provides an opportunity for local and international stakeholders to exchange experiences, explore the latest trends and developments and win business opportunities in the agro sector.
This meeting was devoted to presenting an overview of the working programme of IOFS for the year 2022, while emphasizing the Afghanistan food security program (AFSP), as well as the implementation plan for “2022 IOFS Year of Africa” project. The IOFS Director General also highlighted its current investment project for establishing a Livestock Ecosystem aimed to transform the sheep industry into an efficient and sustainable industrial sector through providing premium quality lamb to the wider OIC markets. The parties further discussed food security sectors’ challenges and expected food price spike in the mid- to long-term perspective caused by tension between Russia and Ukraine and the possible ways of preventing drastic consequences.
The new prospects for further economic cooperation particularly explored through enhancing the market of halal food, comprehensive elaboration Qatari’s way of food security system development and agricultural sector initiatives. Within the Qatar International Agricultural and Environmental Exhibition has been organized visit to the IOFS and the JSC "National Agrarian Science and Educational Centre” (NASEC)’s pavilion, while the latter has been participating in the large-scale international event for the first time.
IOFS delegation on the sidelines of the international fair had also number of working meetings with the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Qatar, H.E. Mr. Arman Isagaliyev, the Secretary General of the Doha EXPO 2023, Mr. Mohammed Ali Alkhoori, where wide scope of questions on bilateral cooperation were discussed.
