On 14 October 2021, the Director General of IOFS, H.E. Mr. Yerlan A. Baidaulet, attended the webinar on World Food Day organized by OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) with echoed the world chosen theme for 2021: “Our actions are our future- Better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and better life”.
In hosting the event in case, COMSTECH, in cooperation with UK-based organizations SAWIE & UPSIGN, aimed to promote knowledge and support good practices for enhancing agriculture and food production through climate-smart agriculture (CSA), conserving water, soil resources and protecting biodiversity.
In the keynote address at the event, the Director General briefed about IOFS 2031 Strategic Vision as well as its programmes and activities, and stressed the importance of building cooperation between international organizations and governments of OIC Member States to address the challenges of global food insecurity and eradicate hunger. This unwavering commitment shall go hand-in-hand with greater health, economic development, and social inclusion for individuals and societies, while strengthening old and forging new partnerships towards creating result-oriented means of joint work.
The IOFS Director General took the opportunity to emphasize the strong partnership with sister Institution - COMSTECH and intention to develop an Action Plan in various agriculture domains for the benefit of OIC Member States.
It should be mentioned here that the event under reference was an opportunity for COMSTECH to launch SAWIE, a smart farm advisory services for smallholder farmers of Pakistan in a digital and knowledge platform advising smallholder farmers in climate-smart agriculture and increase income (www.sawie.net).
