On June 19, the Turkish minister Bekir Pakdemirli said that Turkey has taken all the necessary measures to address drought. Even though the level of precipitation decreased by 25% in 2021, he assured that the problem is manageable at this point. Investing in irrigation systems is the best long-term solution, he said, as the drought may return occasionally. Speaking of the supply problem during the pandemic, Mr Pakdemirli noted that Turkey has not experienced any significant shortages thanks to the timely implementation of preventative policies. One such measure was to exclude farmers from COVID restrictions, which protected agricultural production and productivity.
