Nigeria and IOFS Discuss Bilateral Cooperation on the  Sidelines of AGRF 2022 in Kigali

His Excellency Mr. Yerlan Baidaulet, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) is leading the Organization’s delegation attending the African Green Revolution Forum Summit, being held from 06 to 09 September 2022 in Kigali, Republic of Rwanda.
 
Among the highlights of the second day, the IOFS Director General held a fruitful bilateral meeting with H.E. Dr. Muhammad Mahmood Abubakar, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The meeting deliberated on avenues for strengthening cooperation between the IOFS and Nigeria, particularly the proposal for the country to host some events within the framework of celebrating 2022 “IOFS Year of Africa”. Additionally, the Director General extended a personal invitation for his interlocutor to attend the upcoming IOFS 5th General Assembly to be held on 10-11 October 2022 in Tunis, Republic of Tunisia, under the theme: “Partnerships for sustainable Food Security: Africa within OIC Geography”




 
Earlier in the second day of the AGRF, the IOFS delegation attended an important session on “Accelerating Climate Action through Food Systems” where among its distinguished speakers was H.E. Mr. Alambédji Abba Issa, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Republic of Niger, and H.E. Mr. Olegário Banze, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Republic of Mozambique.


 
The Director General also met Mr. Ibrahima Cheikh Diong, United Nations Assistant - Secretary General, Director general of ARC Group, with whom he discussed avenues for cooperation in the field of desertification and agriculture development in African Member States.


 
Before attending the Gala Dinner, the Director General followed the proceedings of the Presidential Summit, held under the theme “advancing pathways for people, planet and prosperity” in which H.E. Mr. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, gave a keynote address to highlight the potentialities that Africa must be food secure. Other presidents at the panel included that of Niger, Zimbabwe and the Vice-President of Tanzania.
 
It is relevant to remark that the Director General is being accompanied by Dr. Ismail Abdelhamid, Director of Program & Projects Office, and Mr. Abdula Manafi Mutualo, Senior Liaison Officer, in an event that the IOFS intends to continue its networking with potential partners for supporting its diverse activities, particularly those being implemented to celebrate 2022 as its Year of Africa.
