On July 26, 2022 Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) attended the Malaysia International Agricommodity Expo & Summit (MIACES) in Kuala Lumpur. MIACES brings together industry players, producers, investors and other stakeholders from 34 member countries to showcase product lines, latest equipment, technology and provides a dynamic platform to uplift the Agricommodity sector via conference, exhibition, and roundtable discussions, B2B meetings.
The IOFS delegation led by the Director General HE Mr. Yerlan Baidaulet during the opening session of the Agricommodity Forum had a meeting with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob. Parties during the discussion exchanged views on the prospects for Malaysia’s membership in IOFS and reviewed briefly the importance of IOFS strategic framework for Malaysia, incl. development of food commodities such as palm oil.
Aside from that, IOFS Director General was engaged in a number of bilateral meetings with heads of local entities, particularly with President of the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Christina Tee Kim Chin. Sides discussed opportunities for cooperation between institutions through trade exports and investments on the IFPA B2B platform to diversify the portfolio of assets suitable for Malaysian and OIC markets.
Another meeting was held with the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, YB Datuk Hajah Zuraida Kamaruddin. Parties discussed the country’s agro-industry potential and untapped trade and investment opportunities for the intra- OIC market. The minister especially highlighted Malaysia’s key agri-food exporters and enterprises of palm oil, rubber, timber, cocoa and pepper. Parties discussed prospects of Malaysia’s membership in IOFS and facilitating relevant agri-food projects of the country to the OIC member states and fostering profitability of enterprises as well as expansion of cooperation between businesses and food companies of intra-OIC countries. Both sides agreed that tomorrow the IOFS delegation pays the visit to their office for more technical discussion to be led by the Secretary General of this Ministry.
