Capacity building program on nutrition value and food safety to promote ‘Gene to Fork’ modality in the OIC Member States

IOFS is giving special attention to the improvement of the technical and intellectual capacity of Member States in food safety by taking into account the “from gene to fork” modality, and by applying advanced digital and information technologies and incorporating R&D programs, including the development of the methodological base to provide full traceability within the whole supply chain and create of the healthy/safe-friendly ecosystem.

The IOFS Food Safety Training course focuses on capacity building of the OIC Member States and addresses the usage of digitalization in the food safety system to promote trade facilitation and raise awareness of the consumers under the framework of the “Gene to Fork modality”. Also, it is to provide up-to-date information about the country’s food safety standards to an international level and be designed to address real issues, provide regulatory updates, interactive discussions with key players and stakeholders, orientation to the latest food safety standards and audits, and more.

It is important to note that the IOFS designed the course for it to introduce participants to the principles of food safety requirements in the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GSS), the role of digitalization in the food safety system, as well as to reflect on improving trade negotiation within the OIC Member States. The training is also expected to explore the contributions of big data and computational tools for building consensus on science-based food safety regulations. Special focus would be on challenges, in particular from the point of view of developing countries on issues such as the technology divide in tracing food origin.

The 4-days training course would also include action planning to help participants apply their gained knowledge and skills in their place of work in their respective countries.

This course is designed for government officials and private sector representatives to gain insights and knowledge related to compliance with food safety requirements.

Learning Objectives

After completing the proposed course, participants are expected to understand different items/issues related to food safety, including:
  • Digitalization and its impact on food safety and trade;
  • Ensuring synergies between food safety and trade facilitation;
  • Promoting harmonized food safety regulation in a period of change and innovation;
  • Increase networking and interaction among participants for collaborative work on food safety.

Each of the indicated themes will feature presentations by experts, allowing for
broad audience engagement. A pre-event session will precede the official start of
the Training Program.
