On October 21, 2019, IOFS Director General Yerlan A. Baidaulet and Deputy Director General Dr. Hameed Opeloyeru met Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Toyly Komekov to discuss the issues of strategic cooperation, accession of Turkmenistan to the IOFS as well as future plans of the Organization.
IOFS Director General expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for the meeting and noted the importance of intergovernmental relations. Ambassador of Turkmenistan, on his part, underlined the strong political will of his and neighboring countries in joint cooperative efforts. He has also expressed readiness in support of measures and events of the IOFS.
Dr. Opeloyeru noted the strategic location of Turkmenistan for OIC countries, through which all transport routes provide food market access.
Mr. Baidaulet made a brief about the process of making of the IOFS, which was established upon the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Leader of the Nation, he has also mentioned about the 50th anniversary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). IOFS Director General told about the IOFS activities: implementation of the IOFS 3-year Action Plan, initiative on establishment of the Islamic Food Processing Association (IFPA), Food Security Database, Grain Fund and others, which arose interest of the Turkmenistan Ambassador.
Mr. Komekov assured his interlocutors to put all efforts in ensuring joining of the IOFS by Turkmenistan and participating in all related events and programs.
