Working meetings of the IOFS Director General continued in Jeddah

On 29 December 2021, the Director General of IOFS H.E. Mr. Yerlan A. Baidaulet had another day of high-level meetings in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Director General conducted the important meeting with H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, the OIC Secretary General, and introduced overview about the organization and its strategic Vision 2031 framework. He noted on the importance of food security issues within the OIC agenda and for all member countries, as well as emphasized on the key role of this specialized institution in strengthening capacity of member countries in the domain of food security and agriculture. The special focus of the discussion was on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and the response of OIC and its institutions to these challenges. The Secretary General assured the strong support to IOFS initiatives and its long-term strategic programs with particular focus on knowledge and technology transfer to least developing countries in the OIC, especially, in Africa.

Following the day program, the IOFS Director General conducted bilateral technical meeting with the Adviser to the President and Special Envoy on Afghanistan in the Islamic Development Bank Eng. Mohammad J. Alsaati. The sides exchanged views regarding the immediate response, mid-term and long-term cooperation aspects between sister organizations, and particularly discussed the important role of them in addressing the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. Both sides have agreed to plan joint actions asap and define the concrete measures to be taken for the effective assistance on that matter.


At the end of the day, the Director General conducted an extensive discussion with H.E. Mr. Yousef H. Khalawi, the Secretary General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA). H.E. Mr. Yerlan A. Baidaulet provided an overview of the IOFS current programs’ implementation and the IOFS 10-Years Strategy 2031. The ICCIA Secretary General also informed on the role of his organization for strengthening B2B collaboration in all member countries. Both sides agreed to work closely in drafting an effective Joint Action Plan and facilitating private sector engagement in food sectors of OIC countries.
