IOFS Attends the 8th Ministerial Conference on Food Security  and Agricultural Development in Turkey

His Excellency Mr. Yerlan Baidaulet, the Director General of the Islamic Organization of Food Security (IOFS), is leading the Institution’s delegation attending the 8th Ministerial Conference on Food Security and Agricultural Development (MCFSAD) being held in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey until 27 October 2021 under the chairmanship of the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

 
The first day, 25 October 2021, was devoted for the work of Senior Officials Meeting to consider and approve relevant documents in line with the Conference’s Agenda, including the OIC Programmes of Action (PoA) for development of strategic agricultural commodities (rice, wheat, and cassava) and Establishment of OIC Food Security Reserve, which were based on presentations made by the IOFS to the Conference.

Before the discussion of aforementioned agenda items, the Conference witnessed the opening session with statements from the previous Chair, Republic of Kazakhstan, the Chair of the 8th MCFSAD and the OIC, and all were unanimous in calling for more and better efforts of all concerned in zeroing food hunger in OIC Member States. Particular emphasis needs to be put on the call made by His Excellency the Assistant Secretary for Economic Affairs, Dr. Ahmad Sengendo, on OIC Member States to fully support the important work that is being implemented by the IOFS, especially in providing all necessary resources for the successful establishment of OIC Food Security Reserve.

It should be mentioned that remaining officials being part of the IOFS delegation include Mr. Nursalim Suleimenov, Director of Cabinet, Dr. Ismail Abdelhamid, Director of Programmes and Projects Office, and Mr. Abdula Manafi Mutualo, Senior Liaison Officer, who will be following the proceedings of the meeting until 27 October, the day when the Ministerial session will be held.
