On September 16, 2021, the IOFS delegation represented by the Director of Programs and Project office Dr. Ismail Abdel Hamid, Program Managers Azamat Khamiev, Abu Husain Mohammad Kamruzzaman, and Assistant Analyst Raushan Kumekbayeva were on a working visit to the “Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary” JCS (the KGS) (National Space Research Company).
During the meeting, Mr. D. Zernov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the KGS, presented areas of application of satellite data in agriculture, as well as services of the high-precision satellite navigation system.
Dr. Ismail noted that the IOFS programs now provide comprehensive measures, and one of the main directions in the Transboundary pest control program is the development of a locust predicting, monitoring, and real-time map and a reliable early warning system for timely response to locust infestations using of big data analysis and artificial intelligence. Work is also underway to establish and maintain databases on food balance.
During the meeting, it was agreed to discuss the possibility of starting work on space monitoring of the agro-industry, including the use of agricultural land, monitoring of habitats, irrigation and land reclamation in separate regions as a first step.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen the cooperation between IOFS and KGS, particularly at the working level, as well as facilitate the final consolidation of signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations.
