Second day of the training program within the Water Hub event

On September 1, 2021, the second day of the training program for the two-day “IOFS Training Program within the framework of Water Hub for West African and Central Asian Member Countries” was held. The training program was arranged by IOFS and KAZNARU and with the support of the Islamic Development Bank, where the representatives of 16 OIC member states took part.

Participants from Central Asia and Caucuses visited the experimental fields of KAZNARU in the Almaty region, where different variety of drip irrigation technologies for different crops were presented. The demonstration plot was organized with the assistance of the Government of Holland and demonstrate the new smart drip and nutrition technologies for the intensive type of orchards.  During the visit, the specialists from KAZNARU introduced the system of the water supply, consumption, and equipment applying for different crops, as well as efficiency of water (app. 11 000 m3 per 1 ha) for intensive orchards. The other demonstration plot was created in support of the Republic of Korea. In the plot, the technology of the smart greenhouse was presented. 

The second part of the event was started by joining online participation from African countries. Participants from Central Asia shared countries' experiences in integration water management, sustainable desalination and current approaches, irrigation practices, and technological norms for irrigation systems in-country levels. The special significance took to the presentation of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), regarding perspectives for improving the ecological state in the Aral Sea region, covering program, research works, and vision on saving the Aral Sea.  

Participants and listeners noted the high quality of the Training Program. All materials of the training will be translated into 3 languages (Arabic, English, and French) and disseminated among participants. Also it will be available on the IOFS website. 

By the end of the event, all participants were awarded certificates and decided that for remote participants it would be sent by post.
