On February 25, the IOFS delegation headed by the Director-General addressed the interaction between the Islamic Organization for Food Security and the Mazhilis, the lower house of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
First of all, the Director-General of IOFS, H. E. Yerlan Baidaulet provided an extensive review of all of the 16 strategic programs of IOFS. He also brought forward a number of suggestions, such as the establishment of a food security commission in Kazakhstan. He offered the parliament to review the opportunities and potential of the establishment of gene banks within the framework of OIC. Other discussions involved current administrative matters.
The members of the Mazhilis praised the work of IOFS and offered the government’s help in the development of the strategic initiatives, as well as the organization of the Fourth General Assembly in Kazakhstan in 2021. The list of participants from Mazhilis included Mr. Pavel Kazantsev, Deputy Chairman of Mazhilis, Mr. Yerlan Barlybayev, Chairman of the Committee on Agrarian Issues of Mazhilis, Mr. Baurzhan Sartbaev, Member of the Committee on Agrarian Issues of Mazhilis, and Aigul Kuspan, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of Mazhilis.
Other participants from the IOFS side included Director of Programmes and Projects Office, Dr. Ismail Abdelhamid; DG & CEO of International IFPA, Sheikh Bilal Khan; Director of Cabinet, Mr. Nursalim Suleimenov, and Director of Country and Protocol Office, Mr. Baltabay Omarov.
